From 2026, Palm Equipment will introduce Seawastex\u00ae recycled nylon into its apparel line \u2014 including jackets, drysuits, and pants in 2-layer, 2.5-layer, and 4-layer constructions. Every garment face fabric will be made from 100% Seawastex\u00ae recycled nylon, repurposing marine waste into premium paddlesport equipment.<\/p>

What is Seawastex\u00ae<\/strong><\/p>

Seawastex\u00ae yarns are made from discarded marine nylon waste, mainly abandoned fishing nets. Through partnerships with coastal governments, fishing net manufacturers and specialist recyclers, these nets are collected, dismantled, cleaned and repurposed. Governments provide incentives for net returns and collection schemes, creating income opportunities for coastal communities while ensuring a steady supply of recyclable material.<\/p>

Performance without compromise
Seawastex yarns match \u2014 and in some cases exceed \u2014 the durability, strength, and abrasion resistance of virgin nylon. Independent testing confirms they perform to the same high standards demanded of technical outdoor gear.

How Seawastex\u00ae works<\/strong><\/p>

Collection \u2013 discarded fishing nets and other marine nylon waste are gathered through return schemes in Taiwan, providing value to local communities.<\/p>

Chemical recycling \u2013 advanced depolymerization is used to break the nets back down into caprolactam, the raw material for nylon.<\/p>

Fibre production \u2013 the caprolactam is spun into new, high-performance Seawastex\u00ae nylon fibres.<\/p>

Fabric weaving \u2013 Mills weave these fibers into durable, high-quality yarns that are then made into the waterproof fabrics used in Palm gear.<\/p>

Garment manufacturing \u2013 Palm makes these fabrics into paddlesport jackets, trousers and drysuits, high performance gear for your next adventure.<\/p>
